Around here the weather changes so frequently we have to seize the moment and do things without a lot of planning otherwise we miss the opportunity and miss out on some "would-be good times."
The view across to Unga Island and Sandy Beach was spectacular. It was about 10 pm when I took this shot; the sun still has a way to go before it gets real dark. It would have been perfect for kayaking or even a canoe on this tonight.
We gathered some old wood pallets that were laying around, dried sea grass and had our first ever bonfire on the Spit. Evan, Thai, Gulaid, myself, Shane and of course Cassanova enjoyed the fire and acted like kids turned loose to do something only grown ups should do. None of us ran around with sharp sticks in ours mouths and only one played in the fire, so we behaved rather well I think.
Pretty soon Susan and Ashley joined us..they probably saw the smoke and came to investigate...but we all gathered around the flames and just enjoyed the Aleutian night out.
The sun took it's time setting and gave us a spectacular show and the water remained so calm it was breathtaking.
Why is it fire draws people together and seems to mesmerize them? I don't know that I have the answer, I just know that I have a little slice of paradise in my back yard and I will do what I can to enjoy every opportunity that comes along. Even if it means lighting a bonfire at midnight.
