Catching Up

Wow, it is hard to believe after all the planning, my visit with my daughter has come and gone so quickly. But, we had a great time, traveled from Seward to Denali which covered a good stretch of the road system, but not near what the state has to offer.

Our week started out in Anchorage, with a trip downtown to the Anchorage Market. Vendors galore, native made crafts, entertainment and then some!! Had to ham it up a bit and try on one of the original designs at David Green Furriers...anyone have $5995.00 laying around for this bargain?? It's on sale!!

Went to the Alaska Berry Factory and viewed (didn't taste, though) the chocolate fountain and all the goodies made with Alaska berries and products. MMMMMMM good!!

We chose a gorgeous day to hike to Flat Top. My partner hiker is not used to the hills and walking like I am, so we didn't make the full ascent, but we were able to view little tiny Anchorage and some beautiful huge mountains and scenery.

Tried to hike along the trail of the Earthquake Park and made it 100 yards before the swarms of HUGE mosquitoes drove us back. OMG!! These things are huge, relentless, horrible pests and I can not believe the swarms. Next time we will have some DEET and be ready for these buggers!

After a good hike, nothing like a little pampering and some "girl" time to get a pedicure....who's little piggies are who's?

Just for clarification, this is not how Chelsea and I look from behind, we were just a little taken back from the "view." Definitely belongs on "what not to wear" section of the glamor magazines..

We took a day long Glacier tour and these are some of the sights along the way to Seward, a 2 1/2 hour drive south of Anchorage. We saw every kind of sea animal you could imagine and guess who's battery died in their camera 10 minutes into the trip?????? Bummer!! My mind will never be able to conjure up the majesty of standing in front of a 10 story blue ice glacier.....my the wonders our Creator has displayed for us!!

And then there is DENALI!!!! What can I say? A 4 hour drive north of Anchorage was the highlight of our trip. The cabins, the outdoor hot tub, the wildlife, McKinley even if it doesn't show itself regularly...

but the rafting down the Nenana River was soooo coooool, REALLY COLD!! Our guide Aaron single handedly maneuvered this craft through rapids called the Razorback (wooo pig soooee), the Corkscrew, the Train, all of them were a blast and we had a great time!!

I'm learning my way around and looking forward to my friends and family coming to visit. There is so much to explore and see and do. Chelsea and I loved it, who's next????
