Salmon Ranch

Wow, hard to believe I haven't posted in so long, sorry about that! We have had absolutley beautiful weather and I have tried my best to get out and explore every chance I get. On one of these occasions, my buddy Denise and I headed north east to Salmon Ranch on Sunday and had a wonderful day.
It took about an hour and a half to get to this beach, which is two coves beyond Sand Dollar beach (like anyone knows that but us). We had a light breeze, had to don our rain gear once and by the time we hit the beach, we were peeling it back off and ripping out the cameras.

The fresh water creek was full of dead Salmon and very few still trying to get upstream. Their colors had changed, their faces distorted and they were definitely on a mission of a lifetime.

The long reed grass is turning golden colored and the fall season is upon us. It is interesting to see how fast we go from season to season. I have a feeling winter isn't going to change quite so fast and it will be the longest. So far, September has been the warmest month I've been here. Last week it peaked and broke the earlier record heat, it got to 64 degrees!!! Wow!!

There were crevices and jagged rock cliffs that made for cool exploring and practicing with the new camera. None of them quite made the team of published shots, though. There were about 5 leopard seals out in the water watching us and they are so crafty!! Every time we aimed a camera at them, they ducked under water! They are so curious, but definitely camera shy.

By the time we had combed the beach for treasures, we decided this would be a great spot for snacks; the sun had come out and just radiated on us the rest of the day. What a wonderful walk and another beach explored and appreciated for it's fine Aleutian beauty!
